Data-driven insights require data – why share yours today?
For the best results and full transparency, all our reports and insights are data-driven. This means we collect data from several sources, which we further enrich, to monitor and analyse your consumption, and provide you with insights on how to optimise your energy usage and become more sustainable.
With our AI-powered Energy Management System, we automatically collect data directly from the grid, saving you time and effort, with improved results. At the same time, we can cross-reference this information with against your bills to ensure you are not over-paying or to avoid a shockingly high bill in the future due to incorrect metering.
Access to Energy Supplier Data
Compliance and transparency are key values for us at OAK. Before we can collect any data from the grid or your energy supplier, we need to you to give us your permission to collect this information on your behalf. OAK is granted this permission when you sign a Letter of Authority (LOA).
Letter of Authority (LOA)
A Letter of Authority, hereinafter referred to as LOA, is a legal document that allows a third party, referred to as an agent, to act on behalf of the person or entity issuing the letter, known as the principal. The document specifies the scope and specifies what the agent is authorised to do and make decisions for the principal.
In simplified terms, OAK is the agent, and your company is the principal. The LOA will authorise OAK to collect information about your energy consumption for an agreed period. The LOA will need to be signed by an individual with authority to act as a representative for your business, for example at director's level.
The specific information we ask for your authority to collect is to receive current and all historical account information including:
- Consumption history including Half-hourly (HH) data
- Supply MPAN (electricity meter) and MPRN (gas meter) numbers
- Rates and pricing details
- Contract end dates
- Monthly bills
- Other applicable account information
In general, the end date for the LOA is 12 months from the date of signature. We can adjust this as per your requirements but recommend at least 3 months for a monthly comparison and setting a baseline. By covering 12 months we can also make optimisations based on seasonal changes and provide you with more accurate insights.
How it works
Energy Management requires data to be able to measure your performance. No matter what Energy Management System you are planning on implementing, specifying how the data will be collected and summarised will be necessary.
Our approach is dynamic, and we help you based on your current level and help you grow.
What data sources do you have and what level of insights do you need?
We offer three approaches, which can each work on their own, but our recommendation is to combine them as far as possible to ensure the highest level of accuracy:
- Performance Management
By signing an LOA with us we can collect data from the grid and from your energy supplier. We can then utilise existing metering equipment to monitor and analyse your energy consumption, set a baseline, and provide insights on how to optimise operations. It will help you benchmark how your sites are performing, both in your own organisation but also with the OAK Network as a whole.
- Live Monitoring
Performance Management is our recommended starting point, to get an overview of current energy performance and identify key areas to focus on. To gather deeper insights, at some point you will need additional monitoring.
Our Live Monitoring solution is a flexible package based on your needs. We install power quality monitoring and sub-monitoring as per your requirements. Don’t worry if you feel overwhelmed or if you are not sure what to focus on, we are happy to guide you through the process. By analysing information about your electrical installation, we can provide you recommendations based on best practices and the highest return on investment.
- Integration of existing monitoring solutions
If you have an existing Energy Monitoring solution in place, it may be possible for us to integrate and collect data directly from available sources. If your existing system has an available API for us to access, we can integrate it directly into our platform. We require
Whichever option suits you best right now, we recommend starting out with signing an LOA. This allows us to get an overview of your current situation and identify next steps.
